While I was writing several papers, most difficult thing was expressing me thoughts. Sometimes, the ideas suddenly pop up in my mind but I had to give up because it is too hard to write. Therefore, I used “Corpus Concordance Sampler” at that time, but usually I could not find the sentences that I want.

Most important issue that I think is the objective standard of plagiarism. In Haley’s case, it was obviously her fault and only issue was the seriousness of the punishment. However, in Marita or Jamal’s case, it is hard to judge if those were plagiarism or not. Therefore, people’s opinions could be different base on for how much they think it is plagiarism.

Plagiarism is the most critical matter in academic affair. Actually I did not realize importance of it in the school. I didn’t receive appropriate educations about academic misconduct in my all education courses. In my experiences, there are many students who plagiarize other students’ homework and even exam. Since there are no proper educations about plagiarism, the only thing to prevent plagiarism is to depend on students’ own conscience and punishment. It is hard to accuse a student who plagiarized the others’ because he or she is a classmate. I saw many plagiarized work or plagiarizing in my education courses; however, they did not punished because they did not detected. Even their plagiarized works were discovered, they receive light punishment such as warning or resubmission. In my opinion, the most students think it is unfair, but there is nothing to prevent plagiarism for them.
The most important issue in regard to plagiarism is to prevent plagiarism. My first education in OSU is learning about the importance of academic misconduct. In addition, in my 106 course, all subjects which we write about are the plagiarism and the way to prevent plagiarism. I think it is very useful for me and also proper education about plagiarism. I also think all of education institute have to adopt these education courses for new students because new students must know what plagiarism is. I think it is very important to students to prevent plagiarism and fair competition.
The types of difficulties I have in writing are lack of knowledge about vocabularies and paraphrasing. These are connected each other. Because I don’t know many useful vocabularies, I have a difficulty to paraphrase some paragraphs from a source to my paper. If I did not learn about plagiarism in this 106 course, I think I will encounter many critical problems about plagiarism like Marita’s case.

In Hongik University, where I was in Korea, they usually did not treat students very harsh with plagiarism. Therefore, students copied other’s paper or internet sources. However, some professors began to catch the plagiarism. At first, many students caught for the plagiarism, because copying the assignment was habituation to them. Because it was the first time, professors just worn them.
Some students stop plagiarizing, but others did not. They were caught again, and because it was the second time, they got fail in that class. Most of the students stopped cheating on their paper. There were no more students punished as a plagiarist. However, few month later, one student was caught from the cheating during the exam, and checking his past faults, the examiner(or instructor….I’m not sure…) find out that he was caught for the plagiarism twice and did similar things, plagiarism, several times after than. It is not sure what was punishment, but in rumor, he was dismissed from school.

I had not used in-text and reference list when I wrote papers in my country. They did not consider it as severe mistakes. However, throughout this class, what I was doing was wrong and can be considered as plgiarism, even though I did not do it on purpose. When I was at college in Korea, one of my friend was punished for plagiarism. He copied whole papers on a website without any change. The professor caught his plgiarism and he got an "F" grade for that class; but he was not expelled from the school. In korea, they do not teach about plagiarism much and there are no specific rules for that. The punishment for plagiarism depends on professor's rules. Most of professors give students who plgiarize an "F" grade.

For me, the meaning of issue was not clear. First time, I had thought it was that can be answered by "yes" or "no" or "agree" or "disagree". I am not still sure, but I guess it is something that we can talk and dicuss about. Another difficulty was make my essay from general to specific. At the every first of paragraph, topic sentences are required. I am kind of confusing that when we say topic sentences in the first, that can be too specific to start.

The most improtant issue for plagiarism is how the punishments can be applied to each different situations. It is no specific standard of punishment and hard to give proper ones. However, how severe action was can be distinguish by it was intentional or unintentional and habitual or unhabitual.

Not knowing what the plagiarism is, I think I have plagiarized several times since I entered the elementary school. When I was attending middle school in my country, Republic of Korea, I was given some assignments during a summer break. The assignment was about writting a summary and my opinions after I finish reading a book. At that time I did not have enough time to read a entire of book because I was procrastinating with my given homework; therefore I copied some summary, which was posted on the internet, and I changed those words as my own words without any citation. Fortunately, I did not caught by a plagiarism and I could graduate my middle school.
The most difficalty I confronted with my analysis paper was using others thought into my essay for surrporting my own idea. First of all, I should comprehend what kind of issue that other people are talking about with the same topic that I have. Then I should praphrased those words to my essay to fit right to my essay with smooth flowing. I think this part is the most difficult to me.
I think the most important issue in regard to plagiarism is the fact that people have knowlege about how to do the citation and parapharase correctly on thier work or not. Because people could be accused for the plagiarism with good motivation of using other's words.

I have been experienced about plagiarism. Two years ago, one of my friends did plagiarism but he did not know what thing is his wrong. He just wanted to quote good sentence for his papers. He was not Native American either like me. He has one of habit that when he finds good sentence, he frequently writes in notes. However, teacher was angry about his paper. In other hand, he just came here two months ago, he could not communication to American people includes teacher. So their misunderstanding went against as time goes on. Problem paper's the most difficult thing is about issue because it difficult to build up. It should be not general things, too detail and relate to thesis. Actually, the hardest thing is making a thesis sentence. It contains many sorts of things that it should express about topic. I think the most important issue is education for plagiarism. In my opinion, our life always has many things for learning. For example, we can learn smile at children's. Like this, we are steadily learning. If we educated students about plagiarism, they would not plagiarize any more. All students need to educate about plagiarism before writing their papers.

The act of plagiarism is to copy more or less some one's else's ideas, thoughts, opinion and creations and introduces them as his own. I was studying in 12 grade, i had an experience of observing such kind of plagiarism. One of my classmates was accused of plagiarism by one general histry teacher. We were told to write an article on "oppression of British Government to farmers for blue plantation. My classmate was inattentive to her studies. At the end of the last moment, she went to a senior student and picked up her last year's assignment on the same topic. She added a large portion of that assignment to her writing and submitted to her teacher. The teacher could catch her act of plagiarism and expelled her for that semister.
A man is not perfect and knowledgeable in all respects. As a human being i have some limetations. In writing the latest problem analysis essay, i had not enough experience and enough instance before me. To find out the reasons of plagiarizing were little bit difficult for me. I had another problem what way and how i observe the situation.
To my opinion, the important issue in regard to plagiarism to figure out the assignment is really the student's creations or some one else's.

Plagiarism is common these days, in the universities and schools. Students do not the definition of plagiarism and they plagiarize unintentionally without knowing the result. Students, these days, procrastinate for their work, which forced them to use the outside resources such as Internet. From this class, I have learned lot about plagiarism and I feel like that I can give a lecture on the plagiarism to the students. Moreover, we experienced the cases of Haley, Marita and Jamal about how they plagiarize and what kind of punishment will be appropriate for all these three cases. In my life, I have seen one student who caught under plagiarism for copying the whole project from one of her friend. It was confidential, so I do not know what kind of punishment she faced or been excused.

Our second writing is problem essay analysis, which is very interesting. In this problem, we have to write two issues and a thesis statement following the main idea of the essay. You have write two issues about the plagiarism through the cases of Haley, Marita and Jamal. The only problem that I faced so far is the flow of the essay because I have everything that requires in the essay but unable to put in the right flow. I believe that it will be okay if I practiced more.

There are several reasons for the plagiarism and it is easy to plagiarize if you are lagging in knowledge. Therefore, in my opinion, the most important issue in regard to the plagiarism will be the student's knowledge. For example, Marita does not have the knowledge of her paper, which forced her to plagiarize. Therefore, universities and school should conduct some programs on the plagiarism for successful life of students in the academic studies.

There is a question in every student mind that what is plagiarism and what is the appropriate punishment for the plagiarism. Somebody will thought that it is okay to use outside resources for their work without any reference, but this thing considered as plagiarism. I believe that there should be punishment for the students, who plagiarized, depending on the level of the students. For example, Haley was an high school student and she plagiarized twice. So, there is no way that school could have excused for her work. Moreover, she knew that she was doing wrong, which could creates a problem for her. I agreed with the school decision because schools wanted the students to be confident and independent rather than rely on outside resources. But, Marita and Jamal's case were totally different than Marita because they didn't know that they were plagiarizing; moreover Marita did not know the definition of plagiarism. Marita and Jamal were both excused from plagiarism because Marita was just a freshman; however she did this once and Jamal survived for his excellent writing capability. I agreed with Tanapol that punishment varies in all three cases and they should not be punished in the same way. Due to this reason, Jamal and Marita survive and Haley get expelled from the school.
In the end, school should motivate students, conduct programs to avoid plagiarism because students have the ability for their work.

"No sweat, no sweet" runs an old proverb. Marita and Haley both want to choose easy way then others. Haley knew her action was wrong, on the other hand Marita did not know behavior was incorrect. I think they do not know exactly definition of plagiarism so they need to educate more by school. Our class also educated about plagiarism in a month, at first time we did not know accuracy what plagiarism is. After we wrote some summary papers and discus plagiarism, we finally know that. In this way, we were educated naturally in class by class. It method was good for students because students can take to like a duck to water. I suggest school should make one class that about plagiarism for educating students like survey class. It will guarantee that students protect plagiarised and know right of writing.

As a college student, it is easy to involve in plagiarism. In this developed generation, we have plenty of methods and sources to get enormous informations. For example, numerous researches, papers, opinions, and etc... are overflowing in internet websites, and we can easily borrow some books from libraries. These kind of educational environment easilly lead students to get involing in plagiarism; Furthermore, tough assignment, peer-pressure, lack of knowledge, also effect to it. Haley, Marita, and Jamal, they all have their own academic difficulty. Haley had given tough assignment ,so she used the internet, Marita had lack of knowlegde of plagiarism; therefore she used encyclopedia, and Jamal had some peer-pressure; so he copied some words from old magazine. All of them were punished by their institution, but the level of punishment was vary. It sounds unfair to me, because they are all plagiarized, whether they did intensionally or not, the important fact is that they all misbehaved; therefore, they should be punished equally. People can not distinguish perfectly whether people plagiarize intentionally or not, if someone insist reasonably.

While reading and seeing the article and movie about plagiarism, one sensitive problem was the seriousness of the punishment of it. Even reading the same article, sometimes it seems too heavy, but sometimes it seems too heavy. Maybe the teachers and the student who were in that case would agonize about it also. For that reason, there should be a general standard rule of the plagiarism. How much student plagiarized? How many times they plagiarized? Were they educated about plagiarism in public organ? These things could be the criterions. For example, Haley plagiarized two times, 20% of her paper was not her own; moreover, she knew that she was plagiarizing, so she had most harsh punishment. In Marita’s case, it was her first time and she did not know that she was plagiarizing. The author did not mentioned about the punishment, but maybe it was not very serious. However, there could be some special situation, so the teachers should not only hold fast to the rules but also need some flexibility. For instance, William made Jamal to use his sentence but not allow mentioning his name, so he got caught for plagiarism. As a movie, he should not punish for plagiarism.

What kind of punishments can be appropriate to apply for plagiarism? Don't you ever think that Haley's result was very harsh? Compared to Haley's case, Jamal was not given any punishment, even though he absolutely plagiarized William's works. According to the video, his plagiarism was forgiven by William's permission. Does that mean people can copy other works if there is a permission? Then, Haley could not be punished if she had have permissions. I argue that Jamal should have been punished, even though there was William's permission; unless, many people would use other works with permissions. I also agreed with Umi's words that different punishments should be given by how severe mistakes were.

At the tutorial questions, I saw several tricky situations I had faced before. For example, question 1; the self plagiarizing, question 3; secondary citation, question 5; can not remember where I found the data. These things always make me confuse if it is wrong or not. However, while I was solving these problems, I could clarify the concepts of plagiarism. The most impressive question was the first question, which was about the self-plagiarism which answer was “it is not plagiarism but if I do not have permission from the teacher, it could be guilty.”. I had sometimes faced in similar situation and I always felt constrained to use the past work. However, after solving the problem, I could definite that it was not a plagiarism (anyway it is guilty in OSU to use the old works with out permission.). Now, if I have to define the term of plagiarism, I will answer like this. “Using other’s ideas without refer it and even referred about it, if we do not use it without paraphrasing, it is plagiarism.”

I learned several situations, which I did not realize and regard it as a plagiarism, could be accused by plagiarism. The most difficult and tricky question was the problem given by the Northwestern University. This is a kind of question that comparing two articles and distinguish whether the second draft plagiarized or not. I thought the second draft paraphrased well, because a writer used the first draft for references for writing, and it seemed like both articles were written totally different. But the second aritcle used original idea from the first article therefore it regarded as a plagiarism. Before I took this test, the plagiarism is just copying other's words on one's paper, but I realized that using other idea on one's assignment is also regard as a plagiarism. Also I can see from the answer from different question, I use a idea from group disscussion, but not from induvidually task.

I curious about question number eight. I think cut and paste is always bad thing because it just was literally cut and paste. There is not include his idea it just copy someone's. If you wanted to use cut and paste, you should re-paraphrase. This plagiarizes tutorial changed many things to my thinking of plagiarism. Before i took this tutorial, I could not recognize what is plagiarism. Now I can understand something that is about plagiarism. When I should write papers, sometimes I got also temptation of copy something. However, I change my mind finally. My definition of plagiarism almost likes copy but it is little bit different. If you got a permission of author or wrote work site, it might be fine. I think best way for writing finds new brilliant idea.

The definition of plagiarism is to copy someone's idea into ours own but this exercise explains the plagiarized work and what can you do to avoid it? Some of the situation were easy but other than that were confusing. Question like 1, 3 &4 were easy and easy to identify the plagiarized work, because question 1 and 3 were similar because it explains the definition of plagiarism and we have to ask our instuctor before using any outside resources.
There were situations which was difficult to judge was question 6, because this should not be considered be as plagiarism, if the instuctor likes student idea he has the full power to write that idea for the future .
This tutorial explains a lot about plagiarism and even best for the freshman student like Marita. If the school do this kind of tutorial for the students , I am sure students will do better in the academic studies.

For me, the number 1,2, and 6 questions were hard to answer. I had known that I could use my old papers in other classes because those are my works and are not plagiarized. According to number 1 question, however, using your old papers can be considered self-plagirism. It is better to ask teachers whether you can use it or you have to write others. The number 2 question was the most difficult to me. Common knowledges are known well and most people notice what they mean; so, I had thought that it is not neccessary to cite a quotation on common knowledges. But, they are considered the same as any other kind of knowledge and it is mendatory to cite. The number 6 was a little tricky one. According to this question, if a teacher use your works, then it can be plagiarism. That was the reason what Mr. Benson handed out a paper wheather students' works can be used.

I can now understand bettter and fix misunderstading about plagiarism from those three question, such as self-plagirism. In my words, plgiarism is taking and using any others' works and words without citation, even common knowledges.

The movie "Finding Forestor" (Columbia Pictures, 2000) shows one more story of student who plagiarized on particular assignment. There are several differences and similarities exist among them,Jamal,Haley, and Marita, the major similarty is they used other's idea and made them as their own idea on their first given writting assignment. The significant difference is their motivation when they started writting. Even though, only Marita designated where the source came from,Jamal and Marita used ideas for improving their writting but Haley used other's just for finishing up her assignment for English class. Their background and educational environment are different from each other, in this reason the way they found sources is different. Jamal recieved idea directly from William Forestor, former famous writter, but Haley and Marita found their ideas through indirect way such as using internet, encyclopidea, and etc. At last, fortunately Jamal and Marita recieved another chance and forgiveness from school councils, but Haley was expelled from her high school by academic misconduct.
